MOMOS Thursday
|
|
St. Louis fairs out a surprising array of new restaurants lately, almost all the restaurants I've been to over the past three months are new or relatively new, even the Chinese ones. I always like the idea of tapas, since it gives me chances to try more dishes in one meal. My past tapas dinning experience does not stink either.
How wonderful! Nested in a quite part of u-city, MOMOs is a place which has good food, warm and casual decor, and belly dancing!

Meshuggah Cafe
|
|
I wake up a sunny Sunday noon and decided to call up friends to watch the movie "very long engagement", half an hour later, we were in the movie theatre and the movie turns out to be quite good. A French version of "cold mountain", but a better one without trying too hard.
Went to the Meshuggah Cafe across the street for a cup of Cafe au lait after the movie, it is a surprisingly little cafe with casual flair and real coffee. I like the red wall too.
Say goodbye to friend and drive to the nearby Trader Joe for some sweet shopping. Ten minutes later, my basket is filled with: Chocolate milk, Hit cookie, Key Lime Cheesecake, frozen green beans, french truffles, belgium almond thin and Vitamin C body lotion. I love Trader Joe.
Hey, that is my kind of Sunday.

10 places of my home city - Shanghai
|
|

10 places of my city - St. Louis
|
|
When asked about my opinion on St. Louis, my response has always been "it is ok", it just never feels like a home, but slowly the city becomes a part of my life. Somehow I am attached to the place. Just trying to make a list of lovely places in the city I have been living for two and a half years...
1) Border bookstore in Brentwood Court.
I like to buy books in Amazon.com, but I always like to go to bookstore, especially when I can find a seat in the food book section in the corner. The store is a great place to be both in weekday nights and weekend afternoons. I don't like the second floor though. It is very close to my place and the lovely staff there never refuse to honor a coupon which I never remember to bring to the store.
2) Cafe Cartel and Dressels in Central West End
Cafe Cartel has the best location in Central West End, the urban neighbourhood in the west end of the city. You can do just what you want to do in a cafe house, chatting with friends, waiting for your friends, reading, people watching, crewing ice-cream... Dressels is a cozy walsh bar further north of Cafe Cartel, comfy and warm deco and live music put you right in the living room of the old friend.
3) Einstein Bros Bagel in Laclade Ave.
This is a happy place on Sunday morning and maybe every morning. The big glass window allow plenty of sunshine throwing into the gethering place. I like the large wood table and groups, groups of people sitting and talking over hot coffee and hearty toasted bagels. The fact that you can walk to the place fits my love for the real street corner bakery.
4) Wydown Ave in Clayton
I fell in love with the street the first time I pass by. From then on, I moved closer to it and it became a walking trail for me, I will start from Hanley to Big Bend, sometimes further east to Skinker, take a rest in the front porch of the Church and head back to Starbucks for a cup of ice tea. The ave has a good balance of people, architectures, trees and city air.
5) Soulard Farmers' market
A real farmers'market, the clayton farmer market is so small compared to it. I love walking in the alley and talking to the venders, the fruits are so fresh and unbelievebly inexpensive.
6) Seki Japanese Restaurant in Delmar Loop
Our friday lunch destination, it has very reasonablly priced bentos and great tasting grills. Old ladies there are so friendly and we all like the sushi chef. It is such a joyful thought to leave the office and enjoy a friday lunch break in Seki.
7) Old Webster Groves
It reminds me a Martha's Vinyard in Cape Cod.
The walking trail from History Museum to Washington University in Forest Park
With Golf Course on the left, the historic Lindell Blvd on the right, in the Spring and early fall, this is the only part of forest park that has a feel of Central Park, the best feature is you don't have to drive far to get there.
9) Botanic Garden
If you go there at the right time, especially early summer right before the garden closes, it is especially charming. It is also an ideal summer night picnic location when the Jazz in the park is playing.
10) Chase Park Plaza Movie Theatre and Powell Hall
A neighbourhood theature that you can walk into. After movie, you can walk to an eatery and coffee shops close by or just walking in the lovely CWE. Powell Hall hosts great symphony performances and serves great chocolate cake during the intermission.

The big house
|
|
I went to a dinner party in one of the oldest luxury houses in the city. We enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by friends. However, the grand scale of the old building is definitely not my ideal living space and I even am afraid to go to bathroom by myself. 0)
I was happy to return to my humble apartment later.

Dinner at King Louis
|
|
I like the way the tables are arranged.
It is snowing outside, the kind of powdery snow I love. I am sitting on the couch with candle lights on, watching HGTV's Painted House and House Hunter, the couple in the TV are housing Hunting in Dupont Circle - one of the DC's chic areas, what a lovely night !

Happy New Year
|
|
The sliver and blue scene in my friend's New Year Eve Party is so pretty and I have to make a bow to my dear friend who is a wonderful host and great cook. I am also happy to see everyone in the party. After the party, we drove towards to downtown for some fireworks, but we ended up in a newly open bar in Central West End, "Melange" is a bar with loft ceiling and black and red decor, friendly, inimate, and not noisy, the owner poured us champagne to toast the beginning of 2005.
Finally went to Cafe Eau in the Chase Park Plaza for an expensive Sunday brunch. I ate a lot of oysters and drank champagne again, the amibience is nice, but not the food.
Movie theatres are crazy with tens of thousands of people after the New Year. I loved the crowd and am not annoyed at all. Aviator is good, not not as good as Finding Neverland and Before Sunset...
When I stepped out of the AMC, my super slim friend in LA called to tell me that she could not resist the good food and overate again. It seems to me some life's tiny struggles and delimmas will carry on to 2005. But we are up to the challenges and joy and still love it very very much.
Happy Every Day.
