Christmas in Southern California

This Christmas, I am in LA catching up with friends and making up for the wonderful Chinese food there. An Hongkongnese fruit beverage and dessert place called "XuLuiShan" is my favorite place in the entire trip. It is a must-go place dinner though I overate almost all the dinners and lunches while I am in town.

Pasadena's old town is a cozy and urban part of greater LA that I like, however, the large LA is not my type of place in general. One gets easily exhausted by driving from one place to another.

Santa Barbara is a paradise as I've expected. The main street is a bit touristy but still lovely. The beach does not have suger white sand, but the palm trees and lovely people and the mountains in the backdraw makes it one of most wonderful place in the world.

Happy New Year !!!

Wow, next time please come to San Francisco to see the other side of California, the food is not as good as those in LA, but the people is a lot more geeky and hippie... Tue 25-Jan-2005 04:38

A wonderful Sunday Brunch

Went to a friend house in University City for a brunch gethering, the minute I stepped into the house, I loved it. Everyone is so nice and warm and the house seems so cozy and homy. The conversation flew smoothly and naturally, no one of those hard ice-breaking moving at all. I am really happy that I come and I am really sad to say goodbye to everyone. The paintings, the conversations, the fires, the African art piece, and full house of green plants, the smiles...

One of those beautiful moment in Life.

Happy Holidays!

Joy Mocha, it's a nice thing to do to check out ur cozy web page frequently. You certainly enjoy everyday life and know how to "shoot" those small things most people neglect. Keep it up.

Merry Christmas and new year!

Cake Mountain

I probably ate a cake mountain tonight: carrot cake, chocolate mouse, lemon cheesecake, sweet potato cake, pecan pie.....

My camera is broken and I wish I have photos to show.

Jack and Coke with lime is good, gotta remember that...

A girl at party performed a beautiful piece of the poem, what can I say, it was great.

Ocean's twelve and the new MOMA

I love the movie "Ocean's twelve", who will not love these handsome group? Anyway, another Sunday afternoon movie plus coffee which is always enjoyable.

New York City is cold and dirty in winter, but there is one thing I so want to check out: the new MOMA. Metropolitan Home briefed the reopening of the fatastic musuem redesigned by Yoshio Taniguchi. Somehow, the Japanese architect has this modern touch that is calm and functional.

Concert Night

Pops at Powell Hall is wonderful. I am impressed by the tenor Hugh Smith and the trumpet Doc Severinsen. My coworker is the saxophone player in the band. It was a delightful night with music and friends. The chocolate cake in the Hall is not bad, either. The Christmas decor gave the elegant Powell Hall a holiday joyful mood.

On my way back home, the pop music in my CD player suddently sounded so weak and unbearable that I had to turn it off.

I noticed the moonlight.

Wine tasting in a Gallery

Went to a wine tasting event in a local art gallery tonight. Tonight's wine choice is Pinot Noir which could be quite pricy, however, I was not impressed by the quality at tonight's tasting. The Gallery is OK, like the tree series. Kept thinking one painting will look great in my living room, as usual, it is not in my price range.

It is getting chilly lately here...

Vegetable soup and Morning Cafe talk

I always enjoy late morning cafe talk with friends, especially in a sunny weekend morning, cafe is good, bagel is crewy and the whole place is crowded with people sitting around the big wooden table. Sometimes I think, a morning cafe club should be a great idea for new comers in a city where people can share information on apartment searching, travelling, schooling, working, or just sitting around enjoying a hot cup of coffee.

My friend made a delicious vegatable soap for the dinner party, it is so yummy with the toasted cheesebread.

I bet you meant soup. Sat 11-Dec-2004 05:02

Thanksgiving

It is a brisk day, so nice to wake up a blue sky. Cleaned the rooms and went to watch Johnny Depps new movie "finding Neverland". It was such a great movie, my favorite movie so far this year. I never find him handsome before, but in this movie, he is wonderful and has this quality of having a child's heart and eyes.

Will go to a hot-pot dinner party tonight. Can't wait.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Something to remember

UVA
My memory about Beijing are all summer moments, delicious Taifood and yogurt in the ceramic bottle, dirty taxi, the radio in the taxi, the fake antique market, musuem, the campus folk song in the street bars, the very quite XiangShan, all the friendly people I met and helped me there... However, my memory of Shanghai are almost all cold-weather related. Warm evening snacks in the corner 24hour Lawson store, the 20-people long table in the crowded Japanese buffet place that the whole office can gather together until midnight, the flower and music in HanYuan bookstore, the lamb-kabab stand next to the bus stop, all those tiny lanes we walked after dinner and stopped at each street light to decide which way to turn...

A busy weekend

Office Space - Capital One
Korean pancake Friday night, condo hunting next day followed by an cocktale party/an historionic play in the musuem, a Sunday lunch buffet and the second round of condo hunting, ending up with a full price contract but lost it in the battle with another earnest buyer, thanks to my friends, the red wine and the beef egg noodles saved me out of the blue...
